The last few days have seen lots happening on Valve and its content delivery service, Steam. Here's the updates:

You can now download "TrackMania Nations Forever" for free on your Steam account where an updated version is now up for sale. There are both solo and multi-player options to the game; its physics and pace are claimed to be a refreshing change from mainstream racing games. You get to represent your country, and so does everyone else. In effect, it becomes somewhat like A1 Grand Prix, with drivers representing countries -- so much for national pride.

"Team Fortress 2" owners can now download "Team Fortress 2: Gold Rush" via Steam. The update features the new Gold Rush map and Payload game play, the first set of unlockable weapons, and a new set of achievements for the Medic. More surprises in store: today, Steam is holding a "TF2 Free Weekend" worldwide with all files required for playing and using added functionalities available for download and pre-load on Steam. To be part of the grand party, start pre-loading here.

On the flip side, a EuroGamer report says that the sequel to "Portal" may not come in 2008. Valve Marketing Director Doug Lombardi is quoted saying that the long wait would be due to the company's policy as regards game sequels. Lombardi said they don't want to rush through a sequel just to cash in on the popularity of "Portal"; rather they want to take some time and come up with a worthy sequel.

Whereas according to Games Magazine and XBLAB.net, a possible part of Valve's music-riding game "AudioSurf" might come to Xbox Live Arcade. Let's hope this one's not a rumor!

Yet another announcement from Valve: the Steamworks Software Development Kit (SDK) is now for free
