Adobe Systems has announced a project dedicated to driving Web and video experiences live and on-demand across televisions, computers, mobiles, and consumer electronics. The "Open Screen Project", as it is called, is aimed at using Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR to remove barriers for developers and designers as they publish content and applications across desktops and devices. Towards this, Adobe has also announced a royalty-free license of its next major release of Adobe Flash Player.

The project is supported by content providers like BBC and MTV Networks, and industry leaders including Cisco, Intel, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, Toshiba, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung Electronics.

Shantanu Narayen, chief executive officer of Adobe, said that a consistent and more open platform for developers will drive rapid innovation improving the user experience to a great extent. The company noted that the digital explosion across multiple screens is raising consumer expectations for engaging experiences wherever and however they connect with content.

Web browsing on mobile devices is becoming commonplace, but delivering a consistent, rich Internet experience remains a challenge. To ensure an optimum user experience, software applications and video must work seamlessly across multiple devices and content must be easily available across these devices.
