The company claims that the router is simple enough to be set up in a few minutes. Users simply need to click the EZSetup button on the back of the router to launch it from the PC, and then click on its icon. The wizard will then automatically search and connect with the WL-520gU. Thereafter, the WL-520gU and its inherent security standards (WEP, WPA, WPA2) can be used to set up and protect the Wi-Fi network environment.
The WL-520gU sports Microsoft's Work with Windows Vista logo, implying that it works seamlessly with the newest Vista operating system. Working via the Windows Connect Now (WCN) feature, the WL-520gU can enable any PC running on Vista to associate and join the Wi-Fi network of the router easily and securely. It also supports WCN-NET, WCN-UFD, LLTD: Topology Map and LLTD: QoSExtention, and users can even add Xbox Live into the network via a USB flash disk.
The WL-520gU comes with a Bandwidth-on-Demand feature, which allows users to allocate bandwidth according to their individual needs by simply clicking on the buttons, such as voice or gaming, and assign more or less bandwidth to streamline multiple network activities (FTP, Games, P2P) to work smoothly at the same time. The router also comes with a built-in printer-server function called EZPrint Share for wireless printer-server sharing. By plugging USB printers into the WL-520gU, users can share printers without having to pay extra for a printer server. The WL-520gU supports major brands such as Canon, HP, and Epson.
The Asus WL-520gU wireless router is available in India for an approximate price of Rs 3,750 through India Digital Lifestyle Distributors (IDLDPL).
