A lot of computer users just unpack their new computer switch it on and never give any thought to there online security while they surf the internet. If you use your computer to do work or shop online, computer security is something everyone should give some thought.
No matter what your computer skills are, everyone can create a simple password for their computer which will be a start in securing your computer. Follow these steps to create your password:
1. Click on start then on settings and finally on Control Panel.
2. From the control Panel, select the User Accounts and then click on your User account.
3. Follow the steps for creating a password for your user account and apply it.
This first step will require a user to input the password to gain access to your account when the computer is switched on. When choosing your password please try and include some numbers and capital letters but make sure you will be able to remember it. A good example would be if you were going to use your pet dog's name of milo, you could input M1L0. The more digits you use the more secure it will be. You now have your own computer profile on the computer which no one else can use or gain access to your files.
Make a Password for Your Word Documents
After you make a certain written document you want to keep away from people you do not want to read it, you can always password protect it. You can us this to protect individual text file that you want to hide from everyone else.
1. In Microsoft word choose options from the tools menu.
2. Then click on the security tab on the pop-up and you type in the password that is required to open the text file in the box provided for.
3. Then click on OK after typing in your password and you will need to re-verify this password after you click OK.
4. Now you can safely save the document and be secure that no one else can read it without the password. You can only open this particular written document after you supply the right password. Even if some hacks into your computer and copies some of your work they will still have a hard time gaining access to your personnel data.
Online security is a very important part of our daily lives, the more you do today to protect yourself the less chance you will fall prey to the online criminals.
