Google has announced that it is going to discontinue its Browser Sync Firefox extension with the launch of the Firefox 3 browser. So, you can enjoy this extension only till around the end of this year as it will not be updated for the upcoming version of Firefox.
Google Browser Sync is a Firefox extension that synchronizes your bookmarks, Web history, browser sessions, and passwords across multiple computers by temporarily saving them to Google's servers.
The search giant explains though their blog that Browser Sync was the project of a small team, which has now moved on to other projects. Hence, it is not being maintained and there will be no updates for this in Firefox 3. The service will be available only till the end of 2008. However, those who choose to continue using Firefox 2 will get Google's support for it throughout the year.
At the same time, giving other options to replace the same, Google recommends:
- Mozilla Weave from Mozilla Labs
- Google Toolbar for Firefox
- Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
- The latest version of Opera.
Nuance Communications has announced availability of T9 Nav, claimed to be a mobile discovery software that provides faster access to features, applications, and content on mobile devices in just a few key presses.
Nuance claims T9 Nav allows users bypass button-driven menu systems that often require complex combinations of key presses. The software is capable of intelligently adapting to user behavior over time; it re-orders and predicts frequently-searched terms using patented algorithms from T9/XT9 software.
T9 Nav does not change a mobile device's existing look and feel but works alongside of elements such as user interface (UI) and menu. For instance, typing "m-a" two to three inches from the home screen of the phone can take the user directly to a mapping application, a Madonna ring tone, or a contact named 'Mary'.
Sunny Rao, general manager of Nuance Communications (ASEAN and India), said, "As mobile phones get more complex, data storage capabilities are increasing. Additionally, the proliferation of phone features requires a robust retrieval system to access and manage content. Users are often confused by complex menu navigation, and cannot easily find and identify specific device features and mobile content to download. T9 Nav addresses this critical problem faced by subscribers, and we have brought to the market mobile search and discovery that is fast and simple, efficient, flexible, and adaptable to the user."
To download T9 Nav, go to www.t9nav.com and click on 'download'. The Web site will automatically launch a Nokia installer window where a Symbian S60 Third Edition handset user can click 'install', and finish installation on his/her phone.

Just two days away from Apple's much-hyped Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) to be held in San Francisco (Jun 9-13), and rumors seem to have escalated into serious overdrive.
Everyone wants to know what will happen at the WWDC? One thing everyone's agreed upon is that CEO, Apple Computers, Steve Jobs will lift the wraps on iPhone Next. And iPhone II will deploy 3G cellular network billed to transmit data much faster than the network used by iPhone I. Other rumored probables in iPhone II include: GPS capabilities else advanced geo-tagging features, in-built instant messaging, video-chat capabilities, and support for voice-activated commands.
What may also happen at WWDC is that the operating system of the iPhone and iPod Touch will get an upgrade to what is being called the 'OS X iPhone'. And 'OS X iPhone' will include an App Store integrated with iTunes allowing users purchase and install new software.
That's not quite it. It is rumored Jobs may unveil a brand new Macbook Pro external design as well as the next upgrade to OS X codenamed 'Snow Leopard'. In all probability, 'Snow Leopard' will be only 64-bit and will drive performance and stability improvements to the existing 'Leopard' OS.
Asus has released the new M930 communicator style smart phone in the country.
Sporting a mirror reflective surface, the M930 features free-stop flipping hinge that allows users adjust to any preferred angle or position.
This communicator style smart phone features two screens -- external 2-inches TFT LCD with 240 x 320 resolution and internal 2.6-inches screen with 400 x 240 resolution. In addition, the phone offers two fast and intuitive input options via the numeric keypad when closed, and the full QWERTY keyboard when open.
The M930 offers rich business features via the integrated Windows Mobile 6 operating system and full 3.5G connectivity. With Windows Mobile 6, users can utilize the ActiveSync feature to transfer data from the smart phone to a server.
For further connectivity, the phone supports GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, and USB 2.0. Moreover, in the absence of Wi-Fi coverage, users can convert the smart phone into a 3.5G modem with its one-step Quick Modem setting; while with the plug-and-play auto network configuration, users can simply plug in a SIM card and get connected to the Internet.
Weighing approximately 158 grams and measuring 113 x 54 x 18.7mm, the M930 incorporates a 2-mega pixels camera and 0.3 mega pixels for video telephony. According to Edward Wang, Business Head, Mobile Communication Business for Asus India, this is the only communicator with a Web cam which is called iCAM. Users can type SMS, listen to music, write emails etc simultaneously while using the iCAM.
The Asus M930 smart phone is available through India Digital Lifestyle Distributors Private Limited (IDLDPL) for around Rs 27,900.
ViewSonic Corp has launched its newest VX62 Series consumer LCD monitors including the 19-inches VX1962wm/p and the 22-inches VX2262wm/p. How about sending email from your mobile phone sans Internet/GPRS? It's possible, claims Bangalore-based MyDuniya Networks -- thanks to a consumer application newly-launched by the company. The application enables entry-level mobile users send emails from their mobile phones via SMS without the need for GPRS/Internet. All that users need to do is send an SMS to 53695 and then send email by saving information and sending it to an email id. They can even participate in interactive group messaging. Currently, the service is available only with Airtel in the state of Karnataka but will be extended to cover other parts of the country, says the company. Apparently, it is in dialogue with other operators for launching the service elsewhere as well. Those subscribers other than Airtel need to send an SMS to 99801-53695 to avail the service.

A couple of days back, we did a feature on Sony Gamers' Day, and to be fair to all the Xbox 360 gamers out there, we now present a small feature on all the upcoming Xbox 360 games of this year. There are some really big sequels as well some new titles. Last year was very competitive and saw some of the best games ever, but this year seems to be even bigger. Most interestingly, 2008 is big for all platforms including PC, making the competition even more intense. We'll cover the PC games next time. For now, let's have a look at the big titles for the Xbox 360.
Gears of War 2 
The sequel GOW 2 promises to have better visuals as well as more depth in the multiplayer. The single player plot will take Marcus Phoenix further down the Locusts lair and hopefully finish them off for good, unless the game sells 7-8 million units, thereby urging the developers to make another one. The game has a few new tricks including a chainsaw duel as well as the option to pick up your enemy and use him as a meat shield. The game is bound to be a major hit and add numbers to the already massive GOW community.
Too Human
Fable 2
The original Fable was quite a nice game; it was vibrant, detailed, and adventurous. The game was very successful on the Xbox and PC and has a cult following. The ability to decide your faith, be a good warrior or an evil tyrant, the visuals, all added up to make an excellent and successful game.
The sequel has been in the making for quite some time now, but the previews and trailers clearly show that this is time well consumed. The game takes place a few centuries after the original. Players will now be able to equip guns as well. In addition, the game will allow the player to be either male or female and add many family elements as well. You can own property and gain a title, and by doing so, you can eventually become the emperor.
Halo Wars
Ninja Gaiden 2
Microsoft's answer to Sony's Kratos is Ryu Hayabusa. The multi-award winning Ninja Gaiden has always been among the top games on the original Xbox. Ninja Gaiden 2 has many gamers excited -- this time, the difficulty has been toned down, a new arsenal of weapons has been included, and the amount of bloodshed has been increased. Ninja Gaiden is due for a worldwide release in a few days and the buzz is that this is one true sequel, with all the essentials and more. Let's hope the game releases in India soon enough so that I can post a review.
